Rot'icon


Rot regt an, fördert körperliche Tätigkeit und macht ganz schön hungrig.
   Rot verkleinert große Flächen, wirkt warm, aber auch schwer.
      Rot symbolisiert Liebe, Energie, Kraft, Leidenschaft, Festlichkeit und Glück.
Rot soll im therapeutischen Einsatz sogar puls- und blutdruckerhöhend wirken.
   Rot ist ganz schwierig zum Fotografieren.
Die letzten Monate sah ich daher nur rot.
Für Rot‘icon gab es aber auch rote Rosen.

Red animates, promotes physical activity and makes pretty hungry.
   Red reduces large areas, feels warm, but also heavy.
      Red symbolizes love, energy, strength, passion, celebration and happiness.
Red has in terms of therapeutic use pulse and blood pressure-increasing effect.
Red is very difficult to photograph.
All these facts made me seeing only red.
However for Rot'icon I even got red roses.

Trachtenjacke - Alpine folklore cardy

Es gibt wahrscheinlich kein anderes Bekleidungstück, in welchem sich das handwerkliche Können und die ganze Strickkunst so unaufällig aber eindrucksvoll zeigen, wo sich das unscheinbarste Garn duch Muster, Schnitt, Details und Fertigstellung so wirkungsvoll verwandeln lässt, wie in einer Trachtenjacke. Hierfür wurde gewöhnliche Sockenwolle experimentierfreudig zweckentfremdet und sie hat den Test bravourös bestanden. Die Zöpfe schauen ganz wie die eingewickelten Bonbons aus (auf Wienerisch Zuckerl) von daher der Name. Sie passt ausgezeichnet zum Rock, noch besser zu den Jeans, besteht souverän den anspruchsvollsten Alltag ohne geringste Strapazen und dazu noch ist sie sehr warm und leicht.

Keine Lust auf Sockenstricken? Na dann, anstatt vier Paar Socken, eine zuckersüsse Trachtenjacke, bitteschön!

There is probably no other garment which so easily reflects the whole artistry of the knitting craft in such a striking way as the folklore, alpine style jacket does. Even the most unimpressive yarn morphes through stitches, shape, details and finishing into an effective eye-catching design. For this one I was up to experiment so I diverted common sockyarn from its intended use and was very pleased with outcome. The cables remind of wrapped candies. The Viennese call them "Zuckerl" [ tṣ u k err l ] and so it comes to its name. Apart from perfect complement for alpine folklore fashion, this cardy fits very well both skirts and jeans. It does not stress being skratchy, it does not pill and it stands its ground in demanding workaday life, being very warm and little weighted.

Not keen on knitting socks? Well than, here is the option: one totally sweet folklore jacket instead of four pair of socks.

Ascot Mützen * Ascot berets



Schon bestaunt, die Ascot Hüte? Da gibt es die auffallendsten Schöpfungen zu sehen und zu bewundern. Wie gut nur, dass das Event im Sommer stattfindet. Die Kreativität der Designer punkto Form, Material und Wettertauglichkeit erleidet keine Grenzen. Was würden wohl all die Damen tragen, wenn der Sommer plötzlich, wie so oft zuletzt geschehen, auf den Winter umschlägt?

Eine Strickmütze wäre höchst begehrenswert! Bloß, wie wird eine Strickmütze zum ascottauglichen Hut?

In diesem Projekt drehte sich alles rund um Form, Stabilität, Tragefähigkeit, Wärme und Chic. Entstanden ist eine limitierte Kleinserie mit 10 exklusiven Mützen, die dem Namen Hut gerecht werden. Größtenteils doppelwandig handgestrickt, aufwendig vollendet und dekorativ appliziert. Alle Hüte haben keine Vorderseite bzw. Hinterseite und können nach Belieben gedreht und getragen werden, womit jederzeit eine andere Optik erreicht wird.

Have you ever marvelled at Ascot hats? Some of them are amazing creations. What a lucky convinience that event takes place in summer. There’s no limit to designer’s creativity when it comes to shape, choice of materials and weather-suitability. What would all ladies wear, if summer suddenly turned to winter, as it had already quite often happened  lately?


A knitted beret would be most adorable! But how to transform a knitted beret into a hat ready for Ascot?

This project was all about shape, stability, wearability, warmth and chic. It resulted in a small production run of 10 de-luxe berets, which are worthy to be called hats. Majorily hand knitted with double-layers-technique, elaborately designed and finished with ornamental appliqués. There is no specific front. You can rotate them and wear them as you like. This aspect of flexible wearability provides various visual impressions.

Dornröschen * Sleeping Beauty

Fast hundert Jahre nach gefühlter Zeitmessung hat es gedauert, bis es fertig geworden ist. Im Vorjahr Anfang November angefangen, danach mit verschiedenen Varianten / Längen / Ideen herumexperimentiert und kein Gefallen daran gefunden.  Nun aber ist es wach geküsst. Dornröschen ist ein Kurzmantel in Raglanschnitt, gänzlich mit verkürzten Reihen gearbeitet. 6 verschiedene Garne in 8 Farben, in Stärke von 2-fach bis 8-fach kombiniert und mit Nadeln 7.0mm verstrickt. Die Verarbeitung von Kunstpelz war eine Erfahrung für sich, besonders beim Schneidern. So viel Haare in der Wohnung hinterlässt nicht einmal ein Haustier, wenn es haart. Aber jetzt… Ergebnis ist ein absoluter Kuscheltraum mit viel Hauch von Luxus.

It lasted for nearly one hundred years (oh well, at least I felt that way) until this work got finished. Since start in Nov last year I did several experiments with shaping, stitches and various ideas, none of them I liked much. She has been kissed awake now. Sleeping Beauty is a shortie coat with raglan shaping, worked all over with short rows. Six different yarn qualities in eight different colours were used, working yarn varied from 2-ply-threaded up to 8-ply-threaded and it was knitted flat with 7.0mm needles. Needles to say that tailoring of plush fur was a fluffing experience. Not even your beloved pet would shed so much hair all over as this did. But now ... these luxurious appliqués invite to snuggle into it and enjoy.

Schwarzer Peter

Dark Veda löste unerahnte Begeisterung aus und plötzlich hagelten die Bestellnachfragen. Wie wird frau den Schwarzen Peter los, wenn frau nur Unikate herstellen will, und dennoch ihre Fans nicht enttäuschen möchte? Da muß eine andere Lösung her. So entsteht gerade eine limitierte Auflage in 10 knalligen Farben. Ja.... und diese handgestrickten Hüte werden voraussichtlich ab Ende September auf Davanda käuflich verfügbar. Schwarzer Peter geht nach Slovenien.

My Dark Veda raised so much cheer and suddenly I faced numberous order requests for exactly the same type of hat. It is a joyfull moment however I still prefer kniting just one of a kind handknits. So, not willing to hold a baby, but willing to oblige my fans,  I decided to make small de-luxe edition of 10 similar hats in loud colors. Oh... and these one of a kind hats I will release for sale on Davanda aprox. by the end of September. Old Maid goes to Slovenia.

Dark Veda


Black. A color connected with evil, death and sorrow.
Synonym for aspects of depth, downward movement, and darkness. In religious issues it refers to a concrete world lying under the earth full of beings connected with the dark: demons, sinners, rivals, enemies, ancestors and diseased persons.

Well...I find black simply elegant.

"KlugeStrickArt" in Wien

Von 4.12. bis 8.12.10 hat "KlugeStrickArt" ein ausgewähltes Publikum in Wien begeistert. Die bunte Mischung unterschiedlichster beruflichen Hintergründe (Ärzte, Finanzleute, StrickerInen, Geschäftsleute, deren Familien und Freunde) sorgte für einen überaus positiven, kulturellen und geistigen Austausch während der Vernissage am Freitag, dem 4. Dezember. Der Veranstalter, GPC gamma capital partners AG und die Gastgeberin Petra Feurstein, die selbst eine Mitgliederin der KlugeArt Strickademie ist, gaben ihr Bestes. Die Bilder wurden sehr professionell präsentiert; jede Galerie hätte vor so viel Konkurrenz erblaßt. Zusätzlich waren  die Räumlichkeiten  sehr herzlich, stimmungsvoll weihnachtlich geschmückt und ein köstliches Buffet verführte den Gaumen. Die Vernissage war ein großartiger Erfolg. Die Besucher bestaunten die Bilder, sichtbar berührt und fasziniert von ihrer Schönheit und Harmonie, stellten unheimlich viele Fragen zu der Stricktechnik und interessierten sich für sämtliche Details rund um ihre Entstehung.

Am nächsten Tag starteten die Kurse in "KlugeStrickArt" geleitet von dem Strickgenie Frau Gabriele Kluge höchstpersönlich. Ein Spiralkurs für Fortgeschrittene, danach die Beginnerkurse mit zwei verschiedenen Themenbereichen.

An meinem Übungsstück aus dem Spiralkurs schwitzte ich regelrecht zwei Tage lang wie eine blutige Anfängerin und buchstäblich erst in der letzten Stunde erlöste mich die Erleuchtung. Bald wird an einem Spiralbild fleißig gearbeitet. Selbstverständlich an einem Unikat. Von der Form her ganz anders als die ausgestellten Bilder, denn diese Technik läßt viele Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten offen.

Während der Vernissage war zu viel Gedränge, um Fotos zu machen. Daher nutzte ich die ruhigen Pausen im Kurs,  um die vielen Eindrücke festzuhalten. Darin sind die Werke folgender Künstlerinen zu sehen:

- Marion Siepermann
- Petra Feurstein.

"KlugeStrickArt" (Art knitting by Gabriele Kluge) held an initial showing at Vienna from Dec 4th till Dec 8th held as the opening of an art exhibition, which turned out very inspirational to a chosen audience.  The last one was a colourful mixture of the most different professions (practicing doctors, financiers, knitters, businessmen, their families and friends) and they all had very much fun juring the opening reception on 4th December. The organizer, GPC gamma capital partners AG, and its host Mrs. Petra Feurstein, who is a member of Knitting Academy founded by Gabriele Kluge, did their best. The murals were presented in a very professional way, each galery would have been jealous of so much competition. In addition to it, the integration of murals in all rooms with a touch of Christmass decoration set a stylish atmospheare and a delicious dinner buffet indulged in culinary delights. The opening reception was a great success. The audience marveled at murals, beeing envolved and deaply fascinated by their beauty and harmony. Everybody was very interested in details of the knitting technique, there were lot of questions about how the murals were done and about the story behind it.

On the next day the star of the evening and knitting genious Mrs. Gabriele Kluge started her knitting classes for advanced learners with a theme "Spirals" which lasted for two days. Thereafter beginner's cources started and were offered to all interested knitters in two different topics.

I joined the spiral knitting class and worked on my learning swatch being in the hot seat just like an novice knitter, not having a clue what am I knitting until the very last hour of the classes when I finally reached enlightenment. Now I'll be working on my next mural with a theme "Spirals". It will be totaly different from murals shown at the exhibition and of course it will be one of a kind. This is so exiting about this technique that it enables a big capability of expression.

There was so much rush during the opening reception that I could not make good pictures of it. But I was thankfull for peaceful minutes in the breaks of knitting classes and made some impressions that I can share with you. You can see there murals of the following artists:

Birkengeist - The spirit of birch

Von Modellen Schneewittchen und Herbstfelder blieb noch viel Garn übrig.
Mit Schneewittchen gab es mal ein Foto-Shooting mit einer Birke im Hintergrund, dass ich sehr genossen habe.
Ich liebe Birken. Sie sind so edel und ästhetisch.

Rumilia

Was ist aus Rumilia geworden? Meinem ewigdauernden Experiment mit dem nahtlosen Raglan-von-unten mit Rundpasse? Sie war das älteste UFO überhaupt. Bis Armausschnitten hat ja alles schnell geklappt, dann aber wollte meine Idee technisch nicht aufgehen, Ribbelmonster hat sich 5 Mal eingemischt, Sehnenentzündung und Unlust behinderten mich. Dazu noch war Garn alle, und ich war kurz davor, das Experiment aufzugeben. Der Himmel schickte mir daraufhin eine gute Fee (Sigrid, herzlichen Dank!), die mir den Hinweis auf die Quelle für das Garn zuflüsterte. Nach so viel himmlischer Unterstützung raffte ich mich auf, und plötzlich war alles ganz einfach! Mit diesem Pullover beende ich meine Strickphase von einfachen und unifarbenen Basics und widme mich wieder Unikaten, die vor Farbe nur so sprühen werden. :-)

What happened to Rumilia? My everlasting experiment with seamless, bottom-up-raglan-joke sweater? It was my longest UFO ever. Everything went well until armholes shaping, but from that point on my idea of it technically just did not work. Having unraveled 5 times, struggling with my disinclination to work on it further, with my tendonitis and, oh Dear, I ran out of yarn as well; I was close to giving it up. But the Heaven was good to me and sent me a good fairy (thanks a lot Sigrid!), who whispered the precious information where to source missing yarn. After receiving so much help I pulled myself together and then suddenly everything was a piece of cake. This sweater marks down the end of my phase of knitting easy, basic garments in plain colours. Silberpfade - Silver alleys

Es war ein Strickerlebnis besonderer Art. Vergleichbar weder mit einem minuziösen Entwerfen, noch mit einem Freeform-Stricken direkt aus dem Bauch heraus, noch mit Stricken nach Anleitung. All die Nuancen des Kreierens zwischen diesen drei Methoden beschreiben es nicht.

Es ist ein sich Fallenlassen in das Schöpfungsprozess und Vertrauen darauf, dass die eigene Urkreativität etwas Wunderbares, Kunstvolles und Wertvolles vollbringen wird. Ihr wurden lediglich Werkzeuge in die Hände gelegt, sie lenkte dann gefühlvoll und mit vorher gewähltem Rhythmus ihr intuitives Tun und spielte mit Garn und Nadeln bis es vollbracht war. Mein erstes Wandbild. Wie sich wohl jeder Lehrling lange zum Meister übt, so bedarf es in diesem Tun noch viel Schliff. Der Lerneffekt war jedoch riesig und es eröffneten sich viele neue Horizonte.

One of a kind

It was a very special knitting experience. Neither comparable with donnishly designing or with intuitive freeform knitting or with knitting patterns. All three methods of creative process and all nuances between them can not describe it well.

It is, as if you would sink into the divine God’s Creation and would totally confide in your ultimate creativity being sure that it would perform something beautiful, artistic and precious. My creativity just needed the right medium to express its lyric and predefined rhythm of intuitive action and played there with yarns and needles till it was done. My first mural. Practice makes perfect; no doubt that I would certainly need to make lot of improvements and would still need to learn a lot. But the learning effect was already huge and it expanded my knitting horizon in so many ways.

Rosentraum - Dream of roses

In Wien ist es ein Leichtes, sich von Rosen inspirieren zu lassen. Ein Spaziergang durch den Volksgarten oder durch den Donaupark und die Schönheit dieser königlichen Blumen berauscht alle Sinne. Wenn Sie nachher noch nicht vollständig verzaubert sind, so gehen Sie in den Doblhofpark in Baden. Da werden Sie wonnetrunken von dort nicht mehr fortgehen möchten. Verhungern werden Sie nicht. Da gibt es eine sehr köstliche Delikatesse zu entdecken, womöglich einzigartig auf der Welt: Naturbelassenes Bauerneis mit Rosenblüten.

It’s quite easy in Vienna to be inspired of roses. It only needs one little walk through the parks of Volksgarten or Donaupark and your sences are endlessly affected by the beauty of this royal flowers. Just in case that this still does not put the spell on you, go to the Doblhofpark in Baden and you would wish to stay there forever. You would not starve to death. On contrary, you would discover there one exquisite delicacy, which is maybe one of a kind in the world: all-natural ice-cream with rose petals.

Veilchen - Violets

Mit einem Veilchenmeer im Frühlingsgarten hat es angefangen. Der blühende Flieder hat die Inspiration und Lust noch verstärkt. Und schon war ich betört von dieser mystischen Farbe, die Geheimnis, Macht, Grausamkeit, Spiritualität und Heidentum symbolisiert.

It started with a sea of violets in the spring garden. The blooming lilac inspired me even more and filled me with desire. And so it happened that all my senses become bewitched by this mystic colour, which  symbolises secret, power, cruelness, spirituality and Heathenism.
